First day with Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D W3. Filming my 2yr old daughter having fun at the playground in 3D, that’s a first for her too, althought she probably didn’t realize that. Somehow I never got round to taking my twin DSLR rig out with the kids as by the time I would have assembled and aligned it, she’d do something naughty because of the lack of attention. So anyway I was really looking forward to having a portable 3D HD device like to W3 was announced at 720p 3D. The camera’s build feels nice and robust, and althought I can’t compare it to the W1 as I never had it, this is actually alright. Being used to all manual options on a DSLR I was missing the freedom a bit, but I could get over it, unlike the tiniest field of view this camera has even at 16:9 setting for HD video, and only for 7MP stills, the 10MP stills are done in 2:3 aspect at even worse FOV. Ok, now the editing part. I have done some tests of automaticly aligning frame grabs and this is what I was getting: yfrog.com So I don’t think my cam’s manufactory lens alignment is too bad, but if yours is better of worse, send me a link to your results. This of coure requires either a floating window, which is what I have done in this video, or scaling up back to 720 which I don’t recommend as the video quality is really,and I mean really poor already when coming out of the cam. why did you SWAP the channels?

the Fuji W3 already has left/right channels (red/cyan).. so why swap them again? or did you reverse them in your editing software?
was there a reason?
(also: what software do you use now) ?

This is intense man! Hard to believe there’s an affordable product like this out on the market. I’m only 20, and when I was a kid, basic digital cameras were reserved for the rich!
I have this camera and I find the video quality pretty useless. On thing is that there is no image stabilizer. So you will need a very quiet hand. Next is that it records wit 24 frames and not with 30. So expect some skip on your computer monitor with 60 frames.
But the worst thing are the photos at least at my camera. I made a review with my experience and sample photos. You can find it on the link below:

I just bought this camera for 178 Euro (244 USD) and it is worth every buck.
The 3D effect looks great and 3D HD recording is quite good, too.
However, this camera has no image stabilizer.

The video uploaded is 2560×720 which makes it true 720p per each eye, not recommended by YT nowdays but I guess still accepted when added with tag yt3d:aspect=15.99:9 . Try Vegas Pro for editing as it supports Fuji’s mpo files nativelywhen s3d editing
Hi there i just wondered if you could help, i have uploaded 2 video with this camera however my subscribers are having bad results when they want to watch in 2D ? how is it that your video has 1080p and original ? did you just uploaded this video through the software provided with the camera ? if so what setting did you use ? as my videos only come with 720p and the HD results look really poor. thanks for your time.
Nice vid! I also bought this Real 3D but the W1 version on the W3, cause I got it in promo with a LG 3D PX950 TV, will be delivered home next week. Also my first 3D video and pics will be of my wife and daughter. Then we all go to Paris…Maybe I’ll load a few pics and videos here…

I found crossing your eyes on mobile devices works the best. Trying to cross your eyes in front of a laptop is really hard.
The 3d was great on my iPod Touch.
which software is suitable for editing 3D videos just for home use?
windows movie maker sadly compiles them to 2D videos.
I bought this camera just prior to Xmas 2010. I love the thing. I take it everywhere with me. I use my Samsung Galaxy S phone (5mp) for 2D photos (takes excellent pics) and I use the Fuji 3D camera for 3D – often of the same subject. If I’m desperate to upload a photo from the Fuji, I use a MicroSD in an SDHC adaptor in the Fuji camera. I can then remove it from the camera and insert the Microsd into my Android phone and copy the Fuji pics off it and then upload them to where ever over 3G.
best example of the Fuji W3 yet! great job! people need to learn how to adjust their parallax settings. The stuff i have seen on youtube is really lacking the basic cam ops needed to SHOOT a good 3D video. People need to stop blaming the cams for their lack of 3D skills.

I use Cineform Firstlight to convert W3 video clips to half side-by-side format. Then I use VideoPad editor to link up segments, cut out bits, add music and text etc. A few examples are on YouTube. Search for johnnewman6153.

WOW! Didn’t even know Aspect was something you could define. I set it to “yt3d:aspect=16:9” and now all of my videos work great! I didn’t have to resize them or anything. I just went through and fixed all of my 3D videos, they all look prefect again! Thanks bunches!
Youtube no longer recommends to upload larger than 1080p, so you have to upload side by side or top and bottom squashed. Somehow it still supports the full hd 3d 3840×1080 when you use yt3d:aspect=15.99:9
The 3D videos I’ve uploaded from my W3 get stretched out and smashed. How did you get your aspect ratio to work right on YouTube?
Pretty good demonstration of what this little camera can do! I’m sure there will be many more in the coming year to choose from, but this is quite a leap of technology! Even though i don’t have a 3D tv yet.. i’ll happily save the movies to watch later… Great video! You made my decision a little easier :)

wow wtf, all you had to do was to draw it birds-eye-view with height and angle next the the lighting elements…… Looks like Heisler shoots all these videos on 1 take w/ no practice run.

A great photographer isn’t necessarily a great teacher as this video (and the other whiteboard videos from Heisler), rather embarrassingly, goes to prove. The scratchings on the white board really only add to the confusion of reasonably straight forward lighting techniques.
No one said it was “Better” than Stock’s it just different.. Things change styles changes needs are all different at different times.. I mean this guy is out there putting out working doing the real thing with real clients.. So I would hardly poke at the guy. I been around 18 years shooting commercially and this guy actually does know what he is talking about when many other “So called” or “Self proclaimed” photographers act like they know what they are doing. This guy does.
This would have been a lot simpler if he’d just stepped back and taken a shot of the whole scene.
