Im shooting the A99 with the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 EX DG HSM and i can say im 100% satisfied. I used a 5D Mark III for 6 Months and im very lucky that i changed it for the A99.
The only downside i seen so far is the shorter Battery life, but the batteries are quiet cheap (i own a third-party non-original Sony Battery which have the same duaratio then the original one).
So, im just 100% satisfied and enjoy every second i can use this camera =)

I used to own the A77, and I thought the high ISO performance really suffered. I can’t help but think that the pellicle mirror was to blame because my D800 is a fantastic low-light performer. My A580 was a fantastic low-light performer. The A77, however, was not.
Hmmm I was about to order a 6D but after watching this I am not so sure anymore…. wil have to think about it a bit longer

Although you are correct that the A99 suffers at high ISOs due to the pellicle mirror, it has a much better dynamic range than the 5D Mark III. The Mark III, like the Mark II before it, is incapable of bringing back areas with heavy shadows.
Why? They aren’t the same class of camera.
You shouldn’t need to purchase a grip on a $2,800 professional camera just to get over the 500 shot mark. Grips are expensive and add unnecessary bulk to a camera.
Not everyone wants or needs a grip. As a landscape and architecture photographer, increasing the battery life is the only benefit of a grip.
im totally happy with mine. Performance is awesome and i was impressed abt the viewfinders quality. Its better than the optical one of my older D90. Absolutely fine and i love to preview my shots through the finder in bright aera.
With the grip you get 3 times the Battery life. Round about 1500 shots
To me, a major negative of the LCD viewfinder, aside from the obvious gripes, is that it significantly reduces the camera’s battery life. It is unacceptable for a professional camera to have a 500 shot battery life.
The reason that i dont want a Sony is that they dont got the same lens range as Canon.
And im guessing that thats the reason for most people.

However the A99 still can only be average consumer product, profeesional won’t be missed on it. Nikon and Canon still better choice.

what real world are you living in, I have seen the test comparisons with the Canon 6D and it’s ISO performance doesn’t come close, you can go twice as high with the ISO on a Canon 6D as far as having real world usable images, I find it funny that Sony has entered into the Fanboy Club haha, I actually like the Sony allot, but the ISO isn’t it’s strong point to my surprise, because Sony is so good at making sensors, I expected the A99 to be a leader in high ISO performance

The only downside of A99 for me is the massive vertical grip. The size of A900’s vertical grip was fine, but I just think the vertical grip of A99 is too big. I know Sony is following Minolta’s tradition of their vertical grip, but the A99’s vertical grip is too big. Other than that, I really love every bits of A99.

Gary Fong seems to have no problem using his A77 for his professional projects. If you don’t need the wider depth of field, I wouldn’t worry about the ISO. Especially if you are happy with your 77.
People like to bash the SLT, but they forget about the image stabilizer the the amount of stops you gain with it on EVERY lens, and not just the expensive image stabilized zooms.

Switched to the A99 from the Canon 7D last month. I light off-camera and it was a smooth transition for indoor and outdoor portraits. Also used a Canon-compatible flash on the hotshoe (adjusting the power manually) for an event and results were great. Button placement took a bit of time to get used to but not a big deal. Autofocus system on the A99 is insanely good. Shooting wide open on the Minolta 28-70mm 2.8 G gives me a high ratio of usable shots. No need to stop down or f with micro-adjust.
