Thanks for the follow up question & for your interest in the D4 HD-SLR. Some Nikon cameras, like the D4, allow for a 1.2x crop factor when taking still images, however, this option is not available in video mode. More specifically, the D4 does have the option of a 2.7x crop in full HD.
Aperture may be changed the regular way on the D4 during the process of recording, however if you want to use the power-aperture feature, you can only do that as long as there’s no memory card in the camera.
What about the D4? Does the D4 allow for the 1.2x Crop factor during video recording onto the memory card? And can the aperture be changed on the D4 when recording to a memory card?
Hi there,
The Nikon D800 HD-SLR can only record video while in full frame mode and 1.5x crop factor. The 1.2 crop is used only for still images.
Also, the aperture is locked when recording to a memory card and thus can not be changed. However, if you are recording uncompressed video out to a device, then the aperture can be changed on the D800 while recording (since you’re now recording on the device and not the D800).

The FX still image frame corresponds to the maximum extents of the box defined by coordinates A1. FX video 1080 is B3. 1.2x crop still is C2. DX still is D4. DX 1080 video is D5. 5:4 still (the fourth crop mode) is C1.

Yes and yes.
The crop modes can be selected and they work as expected.
The aperture, gain/ISO and shutter time (and white balance) can be set independently in manual operation mode. Also while recording. However, do note that the aperture levels you can select are not continuous – the steps can be clearly seen as changes in exposure levels. Difficult to filter out in post. Also, the sound of the aperture servo clicking and buttons being operated may end up in your recording.
Hey Mark, How many crop factors can we use when filming video for the D800? I hear it has Full Frame, 1.2x and 1.5x. But can all of them be used for filming video.

Does anyone else notice that on a D300 or a D300s, that after you put in the how many photos you want to take in your time-lapse to “999” (supposed max in this video) that there is a multiply number next to that??? So…. really you could get 8,991 photos in your time-lapse…. What’s the story morning glory?

You can use Nikon EH-5a power supply to prevent your timelapse from being cut off by an empty battery. Also make sure you turn of the light meter of the camera.
what relationship between shutter with interval?
cause in case i set my camera with 15″ f 5 and then countdown no.of shoot example(10 – 8 – 6 – 4 -2 finished) still confuse with the setting of interval timer nikon d300s

Forgot to say to set the focus to manual. Use a small aperture also to focus all in.
