www.learningdslrvideo.com I am trying to get myself familiar with Premiere Pro CS5 video effects, so here is a video where I am at the park with my girls pushing them. I wanted to test it with motion since I am starting to test the many different ways I can export and render my videos. I also want to do stuff I would normally not do like slow down 24fps footage way down to 40% to see how Premiere works with re-sampling. Also I wanted to say that after about 4 or 5 hours of research I did purchase a video card this weekend from NewEgg and it will be arriving on Thursday, I will make a video with a review of the card. I picked up the MSI N240GT with 1gig of DDR5 RAM for about with about 100 CUDA cores which I understand is all the CUDA cores that Premiere Pro CS5 is actually using at this point. www.learningdslrvideo.com It was a lot of fun catching Santa in a time lapse the girls just loved it. We were up in Estes Park Colorado over Christmas and I took a ton of video and a learn a couple of things while I was up in there in the mountains I thought I would share. The first thing I learned, well I already know, but 720p has a ton more aliasing than 1080p. Check out how the trees the light up with aliasing at 720 here and compare it to the same trees at 1080 here. In the beginning I used to shoot mostly at 720p because I love to slow things down in post for several reasons, like one of them here is using my Manfrotto monopod as a steady cam to get decent walking shoots which is almost impossible with handheld at normal speeds. But now I shoot everything at 1080 unless I know I am going to slow something down in post or I am doing green screen work. The other thing I learned it that I still have a long way to go when color correcting the color cast by florescent lighting when I have not done a custom white balance. I had been doing a lot of drinking before the Christmas dinner and was too lazy to do a custom white balance so I picked the white florescent white balance setting on the camera but that didn’t seem to help. I should have used magic lantern but I was too lazy for that as well. So what I learned is I need to custom white balance before I start drinking. @thephpjo I tried the “frame blend” in Premiere and that seemed to help a bit but I am not sure how to get to the 2nd or 3rd blending modes, you are not talking about After Effects are you?
if you right click on the click you should see something like “frame blending mode” (dont know the exact term in english), thats were you can change how premiere renders slomos.
One of the settings (the standart one) renders things like in your video by expanding frames.
The second one overlays the two frames and adjusts the opacity so frames are blending in each other.
The third one ist the best. It detects the motion of the Pixels and tries to follow it.

Now, I’ve found a bit of info that Premiere competes with Sony Vegas. It might be good considering Premiere and install it in my limited space netbook, since I’d like to cover some flood footage in Bangkok…Thanks for the video, though. It helps!

@AriGLizG Haha, Premiere Pro is a monster used by professionals. I would take smaller steps, perhaps if you have a Mac, I would recommend Final Cut Pro X because it is more simple to use. I remember beginning with Premiere and being so frustrated that I wanted to scream or break something. Sony Vegas is also another option I would recommend. But then again, if you’re willing to take the time, pay the price, and you want to really be serious with videography, go for Premiere.

Hi Dave cool video,could you advise me what exporting output settings should i use im switching from fcp to premier cs5 and im using T2I files, all my videos loosing quality on final output i’v tried all deferent formats but no luck ,im on mac,i would appreciate your answer .
i found that in sony vegas, default rendering gives you ghosting on your video, a quick solution around this is to simply right click the video clip and go into properties and disable the resampling.

Hey Dave, I like your videol! When you were using the monopod for stabilization, it reminded me of a cool tool in After Effects CS5.5 that I think you’d be pretty interested in. It’s called the Warp Stabilizer and it can make handheld shots look like they’re shot on sliders or dollies. I’ll have a video up on my channel showing off the stabilizer, and I totally recommend you research it. I know it definitely helps me a lot because I’m 15 and can’t afford slider gear.

I have a 64SDXC and i’m having all type of trouble running the ML firmware… I used my regular 16sd and install it and every works fine… but it only being 16gb doesn’t give me enough space… i would like to setup my 64SDXC.. can some give me a step by step link…. i’ve tried macboot and everything but just not sure if i’m doing it right…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I presume (I don’t have much knowledge about this specific DSLR and how it records ino 720p) the Aliasing is from the in-camera downscaling to 720p, as in some cases thats also how I think moire can be exaggerated,
I shoot in a codec thats native to 720p and have no problems with aliasing or moire.
are you now shooting 1080 at 30p or 24p? and are you doing any type of slow motion or type of effect to get that smooth cinematic look while shooting in the 1080 mode? thank you
