No problem! It’s also very useful when taking product shots in low light, if you don’t want to use flash (flash on metal, for example, causes glare).
For the D7000, you actually have a dial on the left for all the settings. It should say S, CL, CH, Q, timer, and then the remote icon. just switch to that and it should work just like on the D90.

As long as you can AF the lens normally (either with AF motor in lens (an AF-S lens) or for more advanced cameras with built in AF motor, AF lenses work as well) it should work. If you use it with the lens that came with the camera (18-55mm I believe) it should work fine.
Lasts a very long time. All the remote is is an IR LED that flashes at a frequency the camera can decode. I’ve taken around 300 shots with mine so far and it’s fine.
How long can the battery last?
I have a Nikon D5000. It has no built-in autofocus. Does it work in all cases to focus with the remote? Or one must have outofokus in camera?
