I personally can handhold a shot at 1/40 BUT I don’t want my followers to do that. I went with 1/200 so they try the same settings and get a sharp image. During the day shutter speed wouldn’t make a huge difference from 1/125 to 1/200. Try it and you’ll see.

The first time I watched this, I didn’t understand but after watching it a couple times, I finally understand. One question though….. I get why you chose the Aperture and flash power but why did you choose 1/200 as your Shutter Speed? Is it because of your focal length? Thanks again.

You ignore the light meter in the camera. You pick low ISO when using flash unless the lighting is really really bad but for the most part ISO400 is fine. Pick the desired aperture, let’s say f/4 and then go with shutter speed between 1/125 or 1/250. Last step, pick a flash power. Let’s say 1/4. Take a shot. Look at the exposure and adjust if needed. If subject is over exposed then reduce the flash power. If under exposed then increase the flash power. Watch all flash tutorials. It’s all there.
i dont i only shoot manual but didn’t really fully understand the fundamental concept until now
TTL = Through the Lens which is Auto Mode for flash. The exposure is going to be different, not accurate and will be different from one shot to another. Serious photographers don’t use the auto mode on the camera. The same goes for flash. Don’t let the camera decide for you, go with what you want.
but why not just use TTL? ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER?

Hope you can help me Mr. Jib.. I’m having a problem with my D7000 using the speelight. I always check the photos in every shot, in liveview everything is okay the contrast and all but whenever I will transfer my file to my laptop, all my portrait turns orangey its like over-exposed by the sun.. it is orange i need to edit using photoshop which takes time. I’m shooting in Jpeg. what will I do? please help =(

nice video is exelent….can you foucus on a face like 10 feet away clicket holded …. then go back to get wide photo? the camera still focus on that face or change the focus because you open wide the frame? please answer tanks for reply
ahhh… thanks for this tut… i was kinda familliar wiht mostof what you mentioned… but the focusing on the eyes was definatly helpful!… i was wondering how do focus on the eyes…. use the center and then recompose… genius… THANKS!!!!!!

Thanks, this helped me with focusing. I was getting tired of changing focal points all the time. Now I will go to the center focal point and recompose, it will save me alot of time.
