This is video that was recorded by a photography company in Columbus, Georgia while I was in US Army Basic Combat Training from August-Nov 1997. This company would record various bits of training and then rip of the Joes by charging them large quantities of hard-earned money for this bouncy, grainy video. Anyways….its good to have this record of what I was going through, though it is hardly all-encompassing. This is video from the rappel tower. I only rappeled once in the Army and this was it. I was Airborne so we parachuted from airplanes and helicopters…so no rappeling for me after this. I didn’t go to ranger school either so I probably missed out some there. This served to familiarize us with rappel techniques and build confidence. This is the final clip from my Basic Training video. Hope you enjoyed them, and just remember….they didn’t videotape the good stuff like the yelling, getting smoked at 3am…the good stuff
Video Rating: 4 / 5

It’s really cool how ur mind being stressed out and startled is an advantage of rappelling safety because it tells u to clench up the muscles in ur hand. The same concept helped me hold in the clutch of a motorcycle making me not crash. However it’s a serious disadvantage when operating a gun with a twitchy trigger finger.
I wanna join. Just wanted to know before basic training do you get to chose your division. Like say i wanna go to afganistan do i have any control
Did this 2 days ago
my right ear feels lonely:(
i would really love to do this but to old to hang with these young fellows.. not.
I remember this wall well. Click on my name to go to our channel and check out our rappelling/rock climbing shirts–and the Vietnamese model we enlisted to show them off!
That’s a small wall. I wrlent down a 40 footer down treadwell tower in fort sill
Swiss Seats suck!!! My nuts have never been the same!!!
nope
LOL best military in the world he sais
this is just a small insight into the many, many hard tasks our combat men and women learn and face. Thats why we still habv the best military in the world. Worth losing a leg over.
Bco 1/50th?
1:17 hahaha!!!
The teacher guy spuds like the man from bad company.
you are right. I’m going in as 11x and won’t be asigned 11B or 11C until OSUT. i hope to get 11C though.
this hard?
OMG I DID IT…
It waz SUPER fun!!!
yeah, it’s the same way. I’m going in as an 11x until I go through Fort Benning, Georgia and then my DS’s will either give me Infantryman or In Direct Fire infantryman. 11X is an enlistment option.
In our jrotc freshman orientation you have to go down a 60ft tower this one looks like nothing compared to it
you’ll have more help than you think. You going to BCT in January?
lets hope their not relying on the rappelling skills any time soon.
I swear to god i dont know what im gonna do at Basic….I am so god damn afraid of heights i wont even hear what they are saying to me….straight up i just freeze and my mind goes blank…i dont know what im gonna do
Is this mandatory during bct???
Because I definitively fear heights
And I can’t overcome this because I get into a nervous lockdown and can’t do anything at all
It was optional for jclc 2010 fort devens Massachusetts I was lucky!!!
Wow that’s a tiny rappel tower. The one I rappelled down on Tuesday was 60 ft. How tall is this one?
if this freaks you out dont join! this is bread and butter soldiering, just wait till the rounds start coming down on you, then its time to panic!
this is fun nothing more
