I have always purchased the Canon lenses. I might just be paranoid but I think that the manufacturer would make a better lens for its camera. Again this is just based on my wierdness =o)

Did you make sure you where in focus, had the moon in the frame and your camera is functioning correctly. After that, I would simply try opening up the exposure until you see the moon. Not all situations are going to be identical so it takes some experimenting sometimes.

somethings not right. I using a Canon 70-200mm f/4 USM lens and I used the exact manual settings (f/8, 1/160, ISO-200, MF). but all I had was a completely blacked out picture. What could be the problem?

You should better use flashes… Continious light is too old-fashion for the photography, especially for freezing moving objects . Imho it’s better for the video production. BTW, nice light diffusing technique – a lot of people use open-faced flashes for their photography and softboxes with the lack of control (but they can use different sizes of softboxes and stripboxes for their purposes).
Robert Grant is his name, not “Learn My Shot”. He makes his tutorials easy to follow and is not implying it’s the only way to do it. Do it on any background you wish. Don’t comment on here saying how you would do things or plug your tutorial in someone else’s tutorial. No class. Robert is the man.

Photographing bubbles against a (pure) white background with strobes, now that is something I find quite tricky (especially in the middle of a family shoot with limited time)!! Do you have any advise on this?

Thanks for the idea, I may try this out.
Perhaps you would benefit from using a remote release cord, it would prevent any camera shake and at the very least it would allow you to stand to one side and not splash the camera.

it was very difficult to focus. I focused on an object first and then set the camera to manual focus. sorry for the late response.
Robert, In this example how did you focus the lens, and what focal length did you use?
